Description
Prof. Ofosu-Appiah was a Ghanaian academic who was educated at Achimota School, Oxford University, and the University of Cambridge. Ofosu-Appiah taught Lattin and Twi at Achimota School and lectured in Classics at the University of Ghana. He also lectured in the US as a visiting professor at Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH, and Dillard University, New Orleans, LA. He served as Director of the Encyclopaedia Africana Project, a pan-African project inspired by the African American, W. E. B. Du Bois, and sponsored by Ghanaian President Nkrumah. Ofosu-Appiah, an avid writer, published several books in both English and Twi, and regularly wrote articles in the Daily Graphic and the Legon Observer. He engaged in public service and served on several boards, including those of the Library, Ghana Airways, the State Housing Corporation, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, and the Academy of Arts and Sciences. Ofosu-Appiah belonged to the Danquah-Busia tradition and chaired a committee that established lectures in memory of Joseph Boakye Danquah, one of the Big Six, who fought for the country’s independence.
